Disappointed

Well, I'm hesitating to post this. I'm not sure why. Life is not always happy-go-lucky, but I don't want to be a whiner, complainer either. So it is with ambivalence that I'm posting about my current WIP: the toddler summer jumper from the April issue of Knit N Style. There is something about the name Knit N Style that rubs me the wrong way. But that's beside the point. This dress is cute, and I wanted to knit it. And apparently I'm just naive or not experienced enough, but when the pattern said to knit three ridges of garter stitch for the hem around the bottom, I just did that and went happily knitting on up the skirt to the waistband.
Nevermind that I kept smoothing down the hem of the skirt. "Oh, it's flipping up. Hmm. Well, look how cute the yarn is knitting up. Hmm, this hem is pesky..." Soooo. We all know how that goes.
Here's the cute waistband. Too bad this is going to be frogged tonight, entirely. I've decided to do a seed stitch hem to match the waistband, and make it longer so it doesn't flip up all the time. Harumph.

the colours are lovely, shame about the pattern!

It's okay to complain about it! We fellow knitters totally understand. What a bummer, though. The yarn looks beautiful knitted up, so I hope that once you unravel, you'll still have the momentum to cast back on.

Complain away! I do it all the time. Better still, I sit there with three kid's patterns and combine the three of them together because you can already tell one just isn't going to work quite right. So I take a bit of this one, a bit of that and finish with the third. Plus I have to sub the yarn to begin with. The colors knit up beautifully so you know what ever you do it will look amazing.

Pooo! I'm sorry, Jen. I know, though, that starting over with the seed stitch hem will make it twice as nice and you will be happy with it, which is even better.

What yarn are you using? It's beautiful!

The seed stitch hem will look lovely, but, oh!, all that knitting to be ripped out!
I hope you have a nice cup of tea to recover from it.

i bounced over from MDK blog, the dress is adorable. I wanted to knit something summery for my little girl, this will do just fine. I may have to go out and get that mag, or I do love the skirt on the knitty.com patterns too.. can't wait to see it finished.. your log cabin is lovely also!
