More Pink

Pink has been playing a major part in my knitting life lately. I don't usually try to analyze my color choices, but treat them more like thoughts while meditating..."hm...there's another pink project. Oh, huh, there's another pink project."

Preschool Auction Ear Cozies

I made these for an auction our preschool is having to benefit an inevitable, upcoming renovation project on its space. This yarn is delightful to work with. I have to admit it's my new favorite. It's very soft but because it's 3-ply, it seems more sturdy and strong than 1-ply Malabrigo, more consistent, and I hear it's less likely to pill, as well.

I'm also making progress on Imogen. I finished the first sleeve last night, although this photo doesn't show it.

I think this is going to be a flattering, nice-fitting sweater. Famous last words, right? I hope not.

You all have been so supportive in the past, and I'd just like to share a little mommy-freak-out situation and ask for your positive vibes for our son. About three weeks ago we noticed his voice sounded different, full as if he had a sore throat. So in the ensuing 2.5 weeks, we asked him a bajillion times if his throat was sore. Finally, realizing that probably wasn't a good tactic, I decided to take him to the pediatrician. Who said his tonsils needed to come out immediately. They were enlarged. So we saw the Ear/Nose/Throat (ENT) doctor--the same one who put in M's eartubes over the summer--and he did a blood draw to test for mono (negative) and said we should wait a month to see if they get smaller and then consider a tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy. That was Thursday.

Yesterday afternoon, he sounded worse. So I looked in his throat. His left tonsil has swollen up disproportionately and is threatening to take up most of his throat. There appear to only be about 2 cms between the tonsils now. I was sufficiently alarmed that I sent DH and son to the ER last night, and because son does not have a fever or any pain and he can breathe and swallow, they did not recommend any immediate treatment but said we should call the ENT on Tuesday. The official documents from the ER say "unilateral tonsillar hypertrophy." Do yourself a favor and don't Google it. It could be all sorts of terrible stuff. But it also could be nothing.

Mommy anxiety prolonged yet another day. Darn that Martin Luther King, Jr. ;)

Oh gosh, I hate the waiting game. It is so scary when there is something wrong with your kids! I am praying for the best possible outcome!

I love that purewool. I really want to buy some to make some longies for my new babe that will be here in the fall. I just may have to do it now after reading about how little it pills!

Terrificly healthy vibes for your son. I hoping for the best! I know that must be very stressful for you all.

I also get on color fixations, ones I'm completely unaware of. I seem to have shoes, pants and two coats all in the same shade of gray-green.

I've never heard of purewool. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for it.

Sending excellent vibes your way! I hate that illness always seems to show up over long weekends and holidays. Your daughter looks adorable in the hat, and I'm sure it will help the preschool at the auction. Hang in there!

Ooh I had tonsilitis a lot as a child, and still have them today. We used to get icecream and salty soup to eat. Apparently salt is good for sore throats. I do hope everything turns out okay for you. I love the hat and mittens too and I am sure they will go well in the auction.

I googled it anyway. I would say that with that diagnosis you are more than justified in calling the ENT back and trying to get in sooner.

Or calling another ENT.

Good luck! I'll be thinking of you and your boy ...

Oh man, poor little dude! I'm sure it will turn out to be nothing that's not easily fixable but I'd be freaked too. I never knew I had the capacity to worry so much until I had a baby...

I have some Rio De La Plata merino which is a 3-ply worsted merino that it just like Malabrigo too, except sturdier like you said, so I am sure it's a lot like the 100purewool stuff, I can't wait to work with it!

I hope he's OK!

I really like that pretty pink. It always looks so sweet on little girls.

Oh dear! I hope he's feeling better very soon and that you will have answers and a course of action already in the works by the time you get this.

I'm a little late here, but by now you probably already have a plan. Hypertrophy is just "overgrown". I have a little girl (age 5) in my AWANA group at church who just had her tonsils and adenoids out. She is doing great. She ate all the pudding she could stand and had no problems. I know when it's your own child, it's just so worrisome. But he will do great! I'll be anxious to hear what happens.
